Improve Access to Information

How many times have you been on the road and forgotten an important document?  What did you do?  Do you pay to use a remote access service such as gotomypc.com to download files?  Did you get your colleague to email it to you,or did you drive hundreds of miles to meet a colleague who had the document on a USB stick (true story)?  What about sharing documents –do you email everything between colleagues so that everybody has several copies of different versions of documents on their PC,not knowing which is the latest one?

Simple changes in the way we work can be facilitated by technology.  Smart Box of Tricks can provide this in the following ways:

  1. Fileshare.  Share your files in one folder that several users have access to.  You don’t have to email attachments anymore.
  2. Access the fileshare remotely using FTP (File Transfer Protocol).  FTP is much better than email at transferring files in areas with poor broadband reception.  FTP allows you to browse the folder contents, copy, delete, rename and move, just like explorer in Windows.  Should the signal intermittently drop,FTP can pick up where it left off ,with Email or Internet browsers, you may have to restart all over again.
  3. Print remotely, access your fileshares from within your File explorer programme,or synchronise your emails with your Notes email client.  Use a VPN (Virtual Private Network).  This establishes a secure tunnel, within which your remote PC and the server can talk to each other as if they were in the same office.
  4. Download and send email from your PDA.  Using IMAP technology, your PDA can become another device from which to communicate with your colleagues
  5. Leave your laptop at home!  Access your email from any PC in the world using Webmail and by using a standard FTP client installed on a computer.  Smart Box of Tricks provides access to email via an internet browser, just like Hotmail or Yahoo! There are many FTP clients that can be downloaded for free and if you know your security credentials, you can log onto the appliance from anywhere in the world.
